I learned something today.
Dads who have sons in treatment for Leukemia with poor blood clotting qualities, should not sword-fight, karate chop, wrestle, or allow any other kind of roughhousing the night before a doctor's appointment...even if their son begs for another round or duel.
They should put these things on the instruction manual or something. Somebody should have said something.
Fresh tests today showed Von's platelet counts are really low. Platelets are the blood cells that help your blood clot. You can tell they are low when you get bruises all over your body after a minor blow from a Nerf sword.
A healthy platelet count is 150 to 450. Von's are down to 31 and at 30 they do a mandatory blood transfusion.
So after a few rounds of wrestling and running karate moves and a punch or two to the face last night, Von is looking pretty colorful today.
And yet he still runs around the house and wants to wrestle. Even as I type, he wields a sword and taunts me to an engagement.
Tonight, he has dropped his pants with pride and is showing his sisters all of his many shaped and sized bruises. To each one, the girls respond with a 'ewwww' and gasping air through their teeth in amazement. He loves it!
It looks like we will have to teach this kid how to knit or something.

knitting needles can be combat items as well! but it would help pass the hours and have warm and cozy results!
How about getting him to start drawing some combat figures! I know it isn't nearly as fun but just an idea. You might have an author in the making! We love getting news and keep praying!
Great to meet you today. I did a Google search and found your blog. Von is such a beautiful little boy! I'll be lifting him up daily, praying that God's love would overwhelm you all, that He would heal Von's body, and completely restore his health. May He continue to cover your family with grace and fill you with the joy of His presence through this unexpected journey.
SKYPE was made for the grandparents. It was good to see the parade of kids in front of the digital camera.
Hello! In case you don't remember me I ran for Von at the HopeKids run. I hope everything is going well and that your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving :) We enjoyed meeting all of you and had fun playing basketball and chasing Von around. He is amazing little boy and full of so much joy and energy! Hopefully we will meet up again at a future HopeKids event! Take care and tell Von 'hi'!!

Sending you much love from Sydney Australia. I confess I am a lurker to your Blog (my husband has had Leukaemia & is 2 years out after a bone-marrow-transplant) but I wanted to post & say BLESS YOU for sharing your journey with us. It is an inspiring, gutwrenching, mindblowing path I would imagine. Von-the-Brave is a great name! Very apt.
Keep going, keep fighting, keep praying...
Thank you
